Vegas, how are you?
Vanessa
Vegas : I’m good! I'm so happy
to be the 1st featured model on the hottest
Southern Entertainment Newsletter on the
Net. UrbanSouth.us Baby! Thanks for this
opportunity.
UrbanSouth: Indeed! We also
thank you for becoming a part of this Urban
South movement we're trying to establish.
Is Vanessa Vegas your real name?
Vanessa Vegas: Of course not!
(Smile)
UrbanSouth: Where does the
name Vanessa Vegas come from? What's the
story behind it?
Vanessa Vegas: It actually
took a lot of thought and creativity. I
had to use Vegas because it’s symbolizes
my personality. It’s hot there and
you can get into so much. It’s fun
and adventurous, like me with a naughty
side (Smile). Vanessa on the other hand
is where the story comes in (Pause). One
night while on the phone with my homie Crystal
(shout out to the N.O.), I asked her, “How
does Michelle Vegas sound?" She told
me Michelle Vegas wasn’t hot enough
and suggested I picked a name that started
with a 'V'. So, I just wrote out a list
of names that started with a 'V' and Vanessa
stood out. From that point on, I started
using the name Vanessa Vegas. Man, I remember
when I first introduced myself as Vanessa
Vegas. People would say “What?”
I’d laugh and say it again and they
then would say “I like that name;
it’s sexy!” It just reassured
me that I made a good decision changing
it from Michelle.
UrbanSouth:
I agree with that decision. Vanessa Vegas
is a hot name! What made you get into the
modeling business?
Vanessa
Vegas: It was an accident! I went
to a studio to take some beauty shots, and
after the shoot, the photographer said,
“Whoa, all of your pictures look beautiful
and you’re very photogenic."
She then said, “I want to show the
owner your pictures to see if he would use
them in the advertisement for the studio.”
Two weeks later I got a call from her asking
me for permission to use the photos that
she took of me for an advertisement . She
told me that the owner loved my look so
I was like sure, not thinking anything of
it. I saw the advertisement a week later
and got excited. It was just like winning
a place at a scientific conference. I was
crunk! Some of my friends from school told
me they saw my pictures at the mall in the
studio. They were in disbelief constantly
stating it wasn't me. I could only laugh
and say, “You don’t know nann!”!
After that, I started doing my research
on modeling and saw that you can use the
internet as a tool to get exposure and now
I’m starting to meet the right people.
I plan to use each person I meet and the
experience to my advantage. Networking is
the key to success in any business.
UrbanSouth: Networking is
key! Is modeling something you would like
to do full time?
Vanessa Vegas: Right now,
my # 1 focus is school. I worked to hard
to be where I am now and believe me if getting
a PhD in Microbiology was easy more people
would have them. But on the real, if modeling
picks up for me, I will roll with it.
UrbanSouth: Now that's interesting!
It's not everyday that you meet a model
working on a PhD. Damn! I bet that just
increased the "How Do We Contact Vanessa
Vegas" campaign...lol. Will you continue
to model after you graduate?
Vanessa Vegas: (Smile)
Oh yeah, I like taking pictures, so when
I’m old and gray I will show off my
refined beauty. Beauty is skin deep and
it only gets better with time.
UrbanSouth: For all men that
would like to know, are you on the market?
Vanessa Vegas: Yeah, I’m
single.
UrbanSouth: Hmmm... Well,
I guess the next question would have to
be what type of man receives your attention?
What's your taste?
Vanessa Vegas: A man that
is sure of himself! One who takes initiative,
dresses nice with a mean shoe game, respectful,
has a high sex drive and great character.
You don’t have to be a gangster, but
I like real G’s. Meaning, a man who
handles his business, takes care of home
(me) and must be a man of his word. That’s
all I can go by. Oh, if he has kids, he
needs to take care of them.
UrbanSouth: What has been
the craziest line a man has ever given you?
Vanessa Vegas: “Will
you marry me?” (LOL)! Funny you asked
me this because when I went out last weekend
to an Omega party with some of my homies
from school sitting down minding my business.
This guy out of no where came over to me
and said “Will you marry me?”
I looked at him and said “Are you
serious?” Then, he got on one knee
in front of me and people started looking
at us when he said aloud This is my future
wife. I covered my face up from embarrassment.
My home girls came over and they were cracking
up. It was a trip!
UrbanSouth:
What does Vanessa Vegas do for fun and past
time when you're not modeling or studying?
Vanessa Vegas: For
fun, I hit the club scene, shop, travel,
dine out and hit restaurants. I have plans
to start a restaurant franchise, which will
only be found in the Southern States. Hopefully,
the food will bring tourist to the bottom
of the map. For past time, I read and write
poetry. I write a lot to past time.

UrbanSouth: If you could be
in one music video, which one would it be
and why?
Vanessa
Vegas : One music video um. . .
“Ms Fat Booty” (laugh)! I could
have played a good Cherie for Mos Def. I
love that song and it’s still tight
to me. I even have it as a ring tone on
my Sprint.
UrbanSouth: What are
you currently doing now?
Vanessa
Vegas : I’m currently working
on a PhD. in Microbiology. Yeah, it’s
hard work...Trust me!
UrbanSouth:
For
people looking to book you, what type of
modeling do you do?
Vanessa
Vegas: I
do print work, websites, music videos, advertising,
and promotion work.
UrbanSouth:
Anything upcoming projects?
Vanessa
Vegas : I have a
couple of 2006 calendar projects that I’m
suppose to do for Models-N-Action which
is a team in the Chicago. I’m currently
the newest featured model on the Model-N-Action's
site. I also have several photo shoots lined
up in Houston, Chicago, Philly, and Nashville.
So, slowly but surely I’m building
my portfolio and networking.
